Meet Doug Scard

A passionate and experienced samba drumming instructor based in Yorkshire. With a deep-rooted love for Brazilian rhythms, Doug has been involved in the world of samba since the mid-1990s, both as a performer and a teacher. His journey has taken him across the UK, playing with renowned samba bands such as the London School of Samba, Brighton School of Samba, Leeds Samba, and Global Grooves. Having joined the ranks at iconic events like Notting Hill Carnival and Brighton Pride, Doug’s experience, rhythmic expertise and infectious energy are second to none.

In recent years Doug has immersed in the UK samba scene, and has studied and gigged extensively with Gez Hebburn (Leeds Samba, London School of Samba, and Brighton School of Samba), Eraldo Marques (Mocidade Alegre and Global Grooves), and Leon Patel (Global Grooves).

Driven by a thirst for knowledge and a desire to delve deeper into the heart of samba, Doug has planned an exciting trip to Rio de Janeiro in late 2023. This pilgrimage to the birthplace of samba will allow him to immerse himself in the vibrant culture and traditions, learning directly from the masters in various samba schools. This voyage of discovery will not only enhance Doug’s own musical prowess but also bring back invaluable insights and techniques to inspire and educate his students, further enriching the samba drumming community in Yorkshire and beyond.
